Weather and Climate
Weather | Climate |
i) Weather refers to the condition of the atmosphere over a small area. Example: City | i) Climate is the average of the atmospheric conditions over a large area. Example: Country |
ii) It refers to the state of the atmosphere over a short period of time. Example: 24 hours to 1 week | ii) It refers to the atmospheric conditions over a long period of time. |
Humidity | Precipation |
i) Humidity refers to the amount of moisture present in the air. | i) Precipitation is the process by which different forms of moisture releases from clouds. |
ii) Humidity is closely related to temperature changes. | ii) It provides atmospheric water back to the earth after evaporation. |
Absolute Humidity | Relative Humidity |
i) The actual amount of water vapour present in a given volume of air at a given temperature is known as absolute humidity. | i) The amount of water vapour present in air expressed as a percentage of the amount needed for saturation at the same temperature is called relative humidity. |
ii) It is measured in grams per cubic metre of air. | ii) It is expressed in percentage. |
Wind | Air Currents |
i) Wind is air in motion. It is the horizontal movement of air. | i) The vertical movement of air is called air currents. |
ii) Wind speed is measured with an instrument called an anemometer. | ii) Air current is measured with an instrument called airflow meter. |
